Where's Arbroath

As a popular tourist destination and still an active fishing port and marina, Arbroath is serviced by an extensive road, bus and rail network.

We are situated just off the main A92 road on the right hand side as you enter Arbroath, coming from the South. Coming from the north or south, look out for our Scottish Tourist Board signs as you approach the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath. Take the exit road to the Arbroath Golf Club off this roundabout. Then 10 metres along the golf club road, take a right signposted Five Gables B&B. Continue up the hill until you reach our car park next to the entrance.

If you are visiting the east coast of Scotland, then Arbroath is a good base to tour from, being centred on the Angus coast. Another good reason to choose Arbroath is that its the largest town in Angus and so offers more choice when it comes to nightlife, restaurants, cafes, entertainment, etc. The distances below give you an idea how far we are from some local businesses and the other towns and nearby villages in the Angus area.

The Airports To Arbroath


Aberdeen Airport to Arbroath by car

From Airport, through Aberdeen following signs for the A90 signposted to Perth and Dundee. You have three choices here.

The Easy Route - Continue along the A90 for about 40 miles and then turn off at the Brechin bypass taking the A983 to Arbroath. As you enter the west side of Arbroath, next to the cemetary on your right, follow signs for Dundee (1st right then 2nd right). Continue along this road all the way to the bottom, following signs for Dundee, to join the A92 Dundee Road. Turn right (next to McDonalds) and proceed for half a mile along the Dundee Road (A92). Then take 1st exit at the Elliot roundabout following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.

The Coastal Route - Continue along the A90 for about 12 miles and turn off onto the A92 Coastal Route at Stonehaven. This takes you along a route that is more scenic as it takes you along the stunning east coast, adding about 10 to 15 minutes to your trip. Continue along A92, bypassing Johnshaven, St Cyrus, Montrose, Inverkielor, etc, until you enter Arbroath from the north side. As you enter Arbroath, its basically a straight road through some traffic lights and roundabouts to Five Gables House. Follow the main road until it joins the dual carriageway heading for Dundee. Continue straight along this dual carriageway until it joins the Dundee Road, under the railway bridge. Still following signs for Dundee (A92), drive past a caravan site, then past McDonalds, until you reach the Elliot roundabout. Take first exit off roundabout leading to Arbroath Golf Club, then 1st right up the hill to Five Gables House B&B.

The Taxi - From Aberdeen Airport to Arbroath should cost around £50 to £60, expensive but it has been done in the past. Shared between a group, this is not too costly. If you are quoted anymore, then haggle with the price!! I would!!


Edinburgh Airport to Arbroath by car

The Easy Route - Well signposted from Edinburgh Airport, proceed to the Forth Road Bridge following signs for the bridge. Once over the free Forth Road Bridge, take the M90 to Perth. Once near Perth, follow signs for A90 to Dundee. When your near Dundee follow signs for Arbroath on the A92. The A92 signs take you clearly through Dundee, joining the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.

The Tay Bridge Route - Well signposted from Edinburgh, follow the signs for the Forth Road Bridge. Once over the Bridge, follow the M90 for 4 miles then get onto the A92 following the signs for A92 Dundee and Tay Road Bridge. This route takes you through Fife and over the Tay Road Bridge to Dundee. Once over the free Tay Bridge keep following the signs for Arbroath on the A92. The A92 signs take you clearly through Dundee, joining the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.

The Scenic Route - If you have the time and want to see some of Fife's stunning coastline, try this. Well signposted from Edinburgh, follow the signs for the Forth Road Bridge. Once over the Bridge, turn off on to the A921 to Kirkcaldy and Kinghorn. The coastal route takes you through the historic towns and villages of Fife, so after Kirkcaldy keep following the signs for Leven, then Pittenweem, Crail, St Andrews, Newport on Tay and then over the free Tay Road Bridge. Once over the Tay Bridge keep following the signs for Arbroath on the A92. The A92 signs take you clearly through Dundee, joining the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.


Glasgow Airport to Arbroath by car

The Forth Road Bridge Route - From Glasgow Airport, follow signs for Edinburgh and the Forth Road Bridge along the M8, then A8 and then back on to the M8 again. As you approach Edinburgh, follow signs for the Forth Road Bridge. Once over the bridge, take the M90 to Perth then take the A90 to Dundee. As you enter Dundee from the south side, keep following the signs for Arbroath on the A92. The A92 signs take you clearly through Dundee, joining the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.

The Forth And Tay Bridge Route
- From Glasgow Airport, follow signs for Edinburgh and the Forth Road Bridge along the M8 then A8 and back onto the M8 again. As you approach Edinburgh, follow signs for the Forth Road Bridge. Once over the free Forth Bridge, follow the M90 for 4 miles then get onto the A92 following the signs for A92 Dundee and Tay Road Bridge. The Perthshire Route
- From Glasgow Airport, follows signs for the M8 to Edinburgh, then at junction 13 join the M80 to Stirling. This takes you on to the A80 then back to the M80 to Stirling. As you appraoch Stirling, get on the M9 to Perth. This takes you on to the A9 to Perth. Once you reach Perth, get on the M90 to Dundee. Continue along the M90 and join the A90 to Dundee. As you approach Dundee, follow signs for A92 Arbroath. The A92 signs take you clearly through Dundee, joining the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.


Inverness Airport to Arbroath by car

You have 2 choices from Inverness Airport, these are:

The Easy Route - Tried and tested weekly over a year by one of our guests. Exit airport and follow signs for A9 heading for Pitlochry and Perth. Once at Perth, follow the signs for Dundee along the A90. Once you reach Dundee keep following the signs for Arbroath on the A92. The A92 signs take you clearly through Dundee, joining the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.

The Scenic Route - This will take a bit longer, so if your not in a rush. Exit airport and follow signs for Elgin and Aberdeen along the A96. This route takes you past Nairn and Elgin, then on to Keith, Huntly and then on to Aberdeen. Once you reach Aberdeen, follows signs for Dundee on the A90. Continue along the A90 for about 12 miles and turn off onto the A92 Coastal Route at Stonehaven. This takes you along a route that is more scenic, adding about 10 to 15 minutes to your trip. Continue along A92, bypassing Johnshaven, Montrose, Inverkielor, etc, until you enter Arbroath from the north side. As you enter Arbroath, its basically a straight road through some traffic lights and roundabouts to Five Gables House. Follow the main road until it joins the dual carriageway heading for Dundee. Take first exit off roundabout leading to Arbroath Golf Club, then 1st right up the hill to Five Gables House B&B.


Dundee Airport to Arbroath by car

The Easy Route - Exit Airport to right heading north along Riverside Drive, following the signs for Arbroath A92 until it takes you on to the A92 Dundee to Arbroath dual carriageway. Follow dual carriageway until you enter Arbroath from the south side. At the Elliot Roundabout in Arbroath, take the 3rd exit, following the signs for Arbroath Golf Course and Five Gables B&B.

The Taxi - You can get a taxi from the Dundee airport to Arbroath, costing around £20-£25. Has been done in the past, spread the cost over a group then its not too expensive

Bus, Trains & Ferries


By Bus coming from the South

Guests travelling by bus from the south, ie from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth or Dundee. We are located just off this main bus route so there is no need to go as far as the the Arbroath Bus Station. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Elliot bus stop just after the Elliot Roundabout. Then its just a few hundred yards walk back towards the roundabout. When you stop at the bus stop, cross the road at the traffic lights and head right along the pavement. You will see our Scottish Tourist Board signs in front of you. As you approach the sign you will see Five Gables House on the hill in front of you, with the entrance road on your left.


By Bus coming from the North or West

Guests travelling by bus from the north or west, ie Aberdeen, Forfar or Braemar. This will take you to the Arbroath Bus Station. Here you can get on any bus going to Carnoustie, Monifieth, Broughty Ferry, Ninewells or Dundee. This takes you along the route to Five Gables House, dropping you off about 400 yards from our house at the Elliot bus stop. Costs around £1.50, free for senior citizens. A taxi service is also available here. Just ask them to take you to Five Gables House B&B and they will know where to go. The trip will cost around £4-£5.


From Arbroath Train Station to Five Gables House B&B

Taxi
Once on the platform head up the stairs and you will find a some local taxis. Ask them to take you to Five Gables House B&B, they will know where we are, a few minutes drive costing around £4-£5. Call us on 01241 871632 and we can advise on disabled access, mini bus taxi's, airport transfers, etc.

Bus
Once on the platform go up the stairs. Turn left then left again out of train stations front entrance, continue along Catherine Street for 200 yards to the bus station, you cant miss it. Buses run around every 30 minutes to an hour. Take any bus thats heading to Carnoustie, Monifieth, Broughty Ferry, Ninewells or Dundee. This takes you along the route to Five Gables House, dropping you off about 400 yards from our house at the Elliot bus stop. Costs around £1.50, free for senior citizens. You will also find some taxi's at the bus station too.



Arbroath Railway Station / Arbroath Bus Station to Kerrs Car Hire Firm

Located not far from the Arbroath Railway Station, about a 5 minute walk. Go up the stairs, leaving the train stations main entrance. Turn left down Keptie Street, follow the road down until you reach the junction with Millgate Loan. Turn right along Millgate Loan, then 1st left on to East Mary Street. You will find them along this road.

Again located not far from the Arbroath Bus Station, about a 5 minute walk. Follow the path around the back of the station, the path leads to the dual carriageway. Turn right here, then right again along Millgate Loan. Go past the entrance to the public car park and take the second road on your left along East Mary Street. Thats where they be!!
